NO OPPORTUNITY WASTED:
Creating a List for Life
I'm a freelance journalist who
writes for the New York Times and various magazines. I'm contacting you
about a book I'm working on that will be published in November. It's an
inspirational book about living life to the fullest, and I'm including the
perspectives of some people who've gone through life-changing experiences.
I would love to include an Iraq war veteran in the book.
The book -- "NO OPPORTUNITY WASTED: Creating a List for Life" --
will be published by Rodale. I'm co-authoring it with Phil Keoghan, the TV
host of the Emmy-winning primetime series "The Amazing Race" on
CBS. The book will come out in conjunction with a new Sunday night
primetime TV series, also called "No Opportunity Wasted," on the
Discovery Channel. Both the book and the Discovery show will have a large,
high-profile, multimedia launch this fall.
"No Opportunity Wasted" will try to encourage and inspire people
to seek out memorable experiences, follow their dreams, and live a fuller
life. Though Phil is known as an outdoor adventurer, this book is not just
about climbing mountains or skydiving - it's about seeking out
opportunities to keep learning, exposing oneself to new cultural
influences and fresh experiences, looking at life from new angles, and
finding ways to enrich the lives of others around you.
In the book, we're including input and examples from people in various
walks of life -- from the Iraq soldier to the schoolteacher to the
well-known Hollywood film actor or artist. We're also looking for people
who've gone through a significant life-changing event, which can sometimes
prompt people to "take stock" and give thought to what they want
to achieve in days ahead. Obviously, it would be great to hear from an
Iraq veteran.
We are asking these potential contributors if they will consider sharing
some of their own dreams with readers. Ideally, we would like
contributors to share a handful of ideas/experiences they hope to try in
the future -- a mountain they wish to climb, a part of the world they
would like to experience, a cause they would like to become a part of, a
personal test or challenge they would like to tackle. For those who don't
want to contribute a list, we're asking if they'd be willing to share just
one experience, one dream you'd love to fulfill in your life.
Please contact me if you would like to contribute to the book.
